USA Great Tutors
Safety Guidelines
Last Updated: October 10, 2026
Every in-person lesson arranged through USA Great Tutors happens in a public place or at an Educational Center, never in a home. This page gives practical advice for Parents and Tutors. The binding rules are in Section 17 of the Terms of Service.
If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911.
For Parents: Before Choosing a Tutor
- Talk first. Have a phone or video call before the first lesson.
- Check identity in person. Look at a photo ID at the first meeting. You do not need to copy or keep it.
- Check credentials yourself. Ask for degrees, teaching certificates or test scores, and verify them where possible. Many states let you look up teacher certificates online.
- Ask for references from other families.
- Know what we check. We do not run background checks. We do not currently verify profile details. Check credentials and references yourself before the first lesson.
For Parents: During Lessons
- Meet in a permitted place: a library, a café, a community facility, or an Educational Center's premises.
- Have an adult present or nearby for students under 18, and always present for younger children.
- Keep arrangements with you. Time, place, price and payment are agreed with you, not with your child.
- Online lessons: the Tutor sends the link to you. Set up the device in a shared room.
- Talk with your child after lessons about how they went.
Online Lessons with Minors
- A Parent must be at home during the lesson.
- Lessons must not be recorded.
- Turn on cameras only when the student and the Parent are ready.
- If anything inappropriate appears on camera, the Tutor turns off their camera or ends the lesson right away and tells the Parent.
- Lesson links and arrangements go to the Parent, not the student.
For Tutors
- Meet only in public places or at an Educational Center. Never at your home or the student's home.
- Make all arrangements with the Parent when the student is under 18.
- Do not ask a minor for a personal phone number, email address or social media account, and do not contact a minor outside lessons without the Parent's consent.
- Send online lesson links to the Parent.
- Do not claim a background check or credential on your profile unless it is true.
- Help students learn; never do graded work or take tests for them.
For Everyone Meeting in Person
- Tell a family member or friend where you are going and when you will be back.
- Use your own transportation to and from the lesson.
- Choose a busy public place with other people around.
- Keep your last name, home address and workplace private in early messages.
Warning Signs
Be cautious and report it if someone:
- pushes to meet at a home or a private place;
- tries to contact a child directly or asks the child to keep secrets;
- asks for payment in unusual ways or far in advance;
- refuses a video call or will not show ID;
- offers to complete homework or tests for a student.
